Meet Alexa and Matthew

My name is Alexa and my son Matthew James was born in 2016. He’s been a wonderful, easy baby and he makes me want to have more!

My pregnancy didn’t start out that easy. When I found out I was pregnant I was devastated and all I could do was cry. I have three children and they were all going to be in school soon, so I was planning to go back to work. I also thought the baby’s father might not stay around, so the timing couldn’t have been worse.

I had already gone to a family planning clinic. They told me about the different procedures available to terminate and asked if I was ready to schedule it, but I couldn’t make that kind of decision right then.

When I came to the Center everyone was kind, loving and warm. They said they would talk to me afterwards, even if I ended up having an abortion. That was comforting.

The nurse said lots of positive things and gave me the information I needed. When I left after the ultrasound exam, i still wasn’t sure what to do. It definitely helped to see the baby moving. After talking it out and praying a lot, I reached a conclusion a few days later — to have the baby.

What I found at the Center was patience, warmth, love and kindness, which is pretty much what every pregnant woman needs. Even thought it wasn’t the way I would have timed ti, everything has worked out well for me, and I’m glad I have my beautiful baby boy.

FullSizeRender_1I came to the Center because I saw one of your billboards, and since I thought I was pregnant, I decided to confirm it. When I came to the Center I was 6 or 7 weeks. I had my first ultrasound here, which was wonderful.

My husband and I have three children and he was not supportive about having another baby. Even though I wanted to keep this baby I was feeling pressure to terminate. From the first time I sat down with a client advocate I felt comfort from the stress I was experiencing. I realized I could walk through it with God and we would be ok.

When I was 10 weeks my husband insisted I have an abortion. At 14 weeks I had a serious car accident. I was hemorrhaging, and had very little support from my husband. My situation was delicate, but I was still pregnant. At 20 weeks the Dr. told me I had partial placenta previa and I had to have physical therapy. Still, my husband wasn’t supportive and never came to a doctor’s appointment with me. I only gained about fifteen pounds in this pregnancy, probably because of the stress, and I had a few emotional breakdowns during the pregnancy.

Finally, I told my husband: “I’m not going into labor with your negative attitude, so either support me or I don’t want you in the labor room.” He finally came around and became supportive. After the baby was born, he told me he was glad I decided to have our son. He’s been a great dad and help to me.

I had a positive experience at the Center. I got MediCal and other information I needed, and lots of support through a very stressful pregnancy. Three words I would use to describe the Pregnancy Help Center: Supportive. Caring. Informative.

your image titleWhen I found out I was pregnant I really didn’t know where to turn. I was so embarrassed as it wasn’t my first time down the road of unplanned pregnancy. I felt like such a failure. What would people say? I was in a difficult nursing program, working as a live-in nanny, and the father and I were not in a stable relationship.

I was scared I’d lose my job along with my housing if the family I worked for found out, and what would happen in school? I studied around the clock, was stressed out and had long clinical hours, not ideal for pregnancy. With much encouragement from the baby’s father I scheduled an appointment for an abortion.

I knew this wasn’t right but I was desperate and scared. I turned to my faith, which led me to the Pregnancy Help Center. My counselor was so awesome. I felt comfortable to share my history with her and as well as my current crisis. She was so sweet, didn’t judge and was so encouraging. We ended up meeting many times at this cute coffee shop and she’d just listen. She gave me hope. There are so many obstacles, but she helped me see my options for every tough decision ahead. Anytime I needed to talk she was there.

I made three appointments for an abortion and with my counselor’s help I was able to make the right decision for me, despite the pressure from my child’s father, and give Max life.
The love and support didn’t stop there. I did end up losing my job and was scrambling to find a place to live and get settled so I was ready for school. I was so discouraged as nothing was coming up, but my counselor helped me stay strong, focused AND opened up her beautiful home to me.

I was able to rest my head, focus on school and take care of the baby growing inside of me. The last few months were difficult with unexpected health problems, the father’s lack of support and challenging nursing program but I was safe and supported so I was able to march right through.

I now have a beautiful, healthy, happy baby boy named Max. He is such a blessing and I am so in love. I am so thankful I didn’t end this pregnancy out of fear of the unknown. I’m fairly certain he wouldn’t be here today if I didn’t have the support, as awful as it sounds.
I am also happy to report that his father has come around and is an amazing dad and has thanked me numerous times for not aborting. Thank you, Pregnancy Help Center, for everything and for still only being a phone call away.

your image titleThe time that people took to counsel me at the Pregnancy Help Center was more than a blessing. My life was changed, and because of that, I was able to successfully carry the baby to full term and I chose adoption.

I had a fear of not being able to care for my unborn child. When I realized that making the choice to adopt was an act of love, my decision was so much easier and I was much happier.
Adoption is a well thought out decision. I had so many questions and fears about the process, but I had the right help and direction, which played a significant role in my choice. Even though I was already a mother and knew how to be a parent, I felt incompetent because my feelings wavered a lot. Adoption turned out to be the best option for me.

Now that my child has been placed with another family, I’m reassured that he will be cared for and loved two times over. He has his family that God made for him and his family that birthed him. I have a relationship with the family and even their extended family. Holidays will be even more meaningful to celebrate with him because we have Life to celebrate.

It’s easy to give up in the hard times, but to know that God put certain people and organizations like the Pregnancy Help Center in place, I know that I’m not alone. I’ve had infertile families reach out to me in hopes of finding a child through a birth mom and friends and old classmates want to share their stories with me. We can save lives and change them if we stick to standing up for what is right. Pro-life, and Praise God.
