It’s important to hear the truth about pregnancy help centers and our practices. The following is reprinted from the Heartbeat International website, PregnancyCenterTruth.com:
CLAIM: “CPCs offer free ultrasounds and then give people inaccurate results.” – Teen Vogue, June 21, 2017
TRUTH: Women deserve access to quality, affordable health care services that comply with the highest standards of care. Free ultrasound services at pregnancy centers are provided under applicable national guidelines set forth by the American Institute in Ultrasound Medicine, the American College of Radiology, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
The protocols that regulate the use of ultrasound technology in pregnancy help centers are the same ones that regulate its use all across the country.
As of 2017, more than 7 in 10 (or 1,944) of the estimated 2,752 pro-life pregnancy center sites nationwide offer limited ultrasound to accurately diagnose a viable pregnancy, establish that the pregnancy is intrauterine, and determine the baby’s gestational age.
According to a report by the Charlotte Lozier Institute, Heartbeat International and National Institute of Family and Life Advocates (NIFLA) have provided training in the provision of limited obstetrical ultrasound to about 3,500 medical personnel, including RNs, registered diagnostic medical sonographers (RDMSs), physician assistants, nurse practitioners, MDs, and DOs. NIFLA has trained an additional 796 management professionals in the medical pregnancy center or clinic setting. As of 2017, about 7,500 of pregnancy center volunteers were estimated to be medical professionals
The impact of these volunteer medical services is considerable. In 2017, pregnancy centers in the U.S. delivered approximately 400,100 ultrasounds, an estimated community cost savings of more than $100 million.
While a vast majority of pregnancy center services are donor-funded, Planned Parenthood—which received $544 million in taxpayer funding in 2017 alone—charges its clients $150 for an intake visit that comprises an ultrasound, lab work and “options counseling” prior to an abortion. Many women report that Planned Parenthood did not allow them to view their ultrasound images, despite the fact that the woman paid for the ultrasound.
One woman, Donna from Indiana, says, “I have had two abortions, one in a Planned Parenthood clinic, one in a hospital where I was referred by Planned Parenthood. Neither time did I receive any counseling. I had an ultrasound at Planned Parenthood and they were very careful to turn the monitor away from me so that I could not see my baby on the screen. I was told it was just a small mass of tissue at such an early stage of pregnancy. I would have made different decisions if I had been given complete information.”
Medical accuracy is critical for any woman considering a life-changing procedure, and medical personnel at pregnancy centers are trained to provide just that. “A small mass of tissue” simply doesn’t describe the extraordinarily intricate development that occurs in the earliest stages of pregnancy. Any organization that says they uphold women’s health care should not obscure or hide the facts of basic human development.

I came to the Center because I saw one of your billboards, and since I thought I was pregnant, I decided to confirm it. When I came to the Center I was 6 or 7 weeks. I had my first ultrasound here, which was wonderful.
My husband and I have three children and he was not supportive about having another baby. Even though I wanted to keep this baby I was feeling pressure to terminate. From the first time I sat down with a client advocate I felt comfort from the stress I was experiencing. I realized I could walk through it with God and we would be ok.
When I was 10 weeks my husband insisted I have an abortion. At 14 weeks I had a serious car accident. I was hemorrhaging, and had very little support from my husband. My situation was delicate, but I was still pregnant. At 20 weeks the Dr. told me I had partial placenta previa and I had to have physical therapy. Still, my husband wasn’t supportive and never came to a doctor’s appointment with me. I only gained about fifteen pounds in this pregnancy, probably because of the stress, and I had a few emotional breakdowns during the pregnancy.
Finally, I told my husband: “I’m not going into labor with your negative attitude, so either support me or I don’t want you in the labor room.” He finally came around and became supportive. After the baby was born, he told me he was glad I decided to have our son. He’s been a great dad and help to me.
I had a positive experience at the Center. I got MediCal and other information I needed, and lots of support through a very stressful pregnancy. Three words I would use to describe the Pregnancy Help Center: Supportive. Caring. Informative.
Our third annual fundraising banquet was held on Thursday, October 29, 2015, and was a great success, with over 400 supporters attending. Keynote speaker Kirk Walden #kirkwalden #buildingawallofhope, inspired and entertained us with his vision of building a wall of hope to strengthen pregnancy help centers such as ours around the country.
With the challenges we currently face with the passage of AB 775, requiring us to post information for our clients about where they can receive free or low cost abortion services #stopab775, now more than ever we need you to stand with us.
At the banquet we launched a plan to move to a larger facility in the near future so we can reach our goal of becoming the #1 choice for women experiencing unexpected pregnancies. Learn more about how you can support this plan.
Remember, your support saves lives.
